For the first half of 2011, I did no songs, no features, no shows, no nothing. I moved to Washington DC and took about 5 months off for a pastoral internship. Even though I wasn’t traveling the world and standing in front of a sea of people every night, it was one of the most fruitful seasons of my life. When the internship ended I started traveling again and slowly started working on new music. Around fall I kicked into full gear working on my fourth solo album. And after months of hard work, the album is pretty much done.

I can’t even express how excited I am to release it. I’m always looking to give people something I haven’t given them before. I don’t want to remake an album I’ve already made. I want to give you a new album, with new music, and new ways of celebrating the same old truth.

In 2006 on my first album, If They Only Knew, I wanted to tell people about a glorious God who I wanted them to know. In 2008, “20/20″ came out and I wanted to encourage folks to see the Lord with real vision. 2 years later, “Between Two Worlds” dropped and I wanted to make sense of what it means to live life in a fallen world while waiting for a Hero to save the day. And this year, beginning April 10th, I want to explore and redefine “The Good Life.” Though the world, the flesh, and the devil lie to us about what the good life is, we don’t have to be controlled by those lies. We don’t have to be robots. We can choose life. I want to challenge the lies we’ve been told, and present a new and more glorious picture. Join me on the this journey.

Last year, ReachLife Ministries in partnership with Reach Records launched the Man Up Campaign. The campaign included a CD, a movie, curriculum and concert series. This year, we are adding a new element to the campaign – a two-day conference & concert event!

The 2012 Man Up Conference and Concert Finale will be held in Atlanta, GA on April 13-14, 2012. This conference will focus on going deeper with the topics that we feel are the biggest issues facing manhood in the urban context today.

Pray for our troops

Living in such a free country, we often forget about those sacrificing their lives for our safety and the many freedoms we enjoy.

Recently, Lecrae had the honor of recognizing some of those brave individuals while performing and ministering to a capacity crowd of soldiers-in-training and army officers at Fort Jackson (South Carolina).

He was also faced with the reality that many of these soldiers will lose their lives in-battle in the coming months. His hope is that you would join him in praying for the safety of our troops and beyond that, the salvation of their souls.

Ever wondered what the inspiration was for your favorite Tedashii song? What does an average day look like for Sho Baraka? How does Trip handle being married at a young age? And what’s Lecrae’s writing process?

Well, from time-to-time, we will give our 116 fam an opportunity to ask one of our artists a question to learn a little bit more about them. We would like to thank everyone who submitted questions for Tedashii. We received an overwhelming amount of questions and it was difficult to narrow them down. Continue to check back for when to submit questions for our other artists.

1. Tim Hull: What does a day in the shoes of Tedashii look like? How much time is devoted to spiritual life and everything else?

Tedashii: My days vary but are probably not as glamorous as you think. They are spiritually focused but probably not in the way you would imagine. I am a husband and a father, so my days are spent mainly in those roles fulfilling scripture as best I can. I also have quiet times, read, study, podcast, write music, etc. throughout the day, but I spend more time praying for my family. The last thing I want to be is your favorite artist and a horrible husband/father. Pray that all of us continue to live out the text in our homes.

2. Michael Bates: How do you stay spiritually grounded on the road when things get so hectic?

Tedashii: My best answer is biblical community and the accountability that comes from relationships in Christ.

In Luke 6, Jesus shows us a reversal of values in comparison to the world. Jesus tells us to prize the Kingdom he brings and to hold suspect the things of this world. The world tells us to be individuals, while Christ brings us into community as a Body. One binds and one sets free. Christ brought radical freedom in my life through the confines of accountability and community. There are hardships in the faith; there is weeping, pain, and persecution, but Jesus says there is blessing in it all. When life gets hectic Jesus shines bright in the darkness and there, in my pain, He is closer, sweeter, and more satisfying than any solution the world could offer.

As I grow in Christ, my desire for His way of administration grows. This Kingdom life, among others in the light, is the best way, not the world’s way of secret personal lives. I am held accountable to my role as a husband to my wife, father to my son, and a brother in the body, none of which I can escape nor want to. And all these things are to my benefit. They are a blessing.

3. Jeff Brown: What would you suggest an up and coming gospel rap artist do in order to become successful in spreading the gospel?

Tedashii: Umm…not rap. No? Ok, be the best rapper ever. No? Ok.

Listen, spreading the gospel is a command to the Christian whether he/she is a rapper or the President. We are called to be witnesses no matter what we do. If God wants rapping to be your platform then rap, and in addition to rapping I’d say join a solid Bible-teaching church and roll with them to serve your local area with the ministry of reconciliation.

But success is a relative statement depending on one’s perspective. Forget success. That can be easily skewed if the right temptation comes along; instead, fight for righteousness. Righteous effectiveness. And the most righteous way I know to be effective is to hone your craft in community and let the leadership of that body deem you worthy of the role you desire.
