I’m not here to give you a crash course in etymology but a lesson in interpretation. Stare at the two words above: “Image” and “Nation” Now say them quickly and you’ll get imagination. Nobody’s in perfect symmetry even with computer enhanced technology. Were so obsessed with self-image that we attempt to correct a birth defect. There are no such things as defects in a masterpiece that speaks, walks, talks, and thinks. False lies and standards are dispersed by the entertainment industry to point out the insecurities of our community. Your too thin…gain some. Your too heavy…shed some. Your too dark…lighten up. Your too light…get sunlight. Your disproportionate…that’s inappropriate. Why does your nose have that shape and consistency? Answer: Rhinoplasty Why does this feature have no manifestation Answer: Augmentation You need some reduction. Answer: Liposuction The norm is to focus on the artificial rather than the untainted initial and the signature shown on the human genome. People blow tons of their lifespan trying to alter the work of the artist’s hands with decisions that involve incisions combined with sleep induced drugs derived from street drugs sold by street corner thugs. Plastic surgery unless for health reasons is no reason for people pleasing This is a writing of encouragement not discouragement to provide you reassurance. He loves you regardless. Hostile Feedback

I love reading feedback from listeners to FAITH MINUTE. Most of it’s positive, but sometimes it’s critical and hostile. One e-mail said that it was obvious that Leith Anderson had never experienced tragedy in his life.

My first response was defensive and I started making a mental list of family crises. Then I stopped and realized that the listener was probably right. I’ve never been diagnosed with a terminal illness, my home has never burned down and our children are all alive.

None of us seeks tragedy for ourselves nor should we ever wish tragedy on others. However, sooner or later, we’ll all taste some flavor of tragedy. The question is, how will we respond? To me, one of the most comforting things about faith in God is the confidence that God can and will use tragedy for good in our lives.

Using Conflict for Good

Christianity was born out of conflict with the paganism of Greek culture and the traditionalism of the Hebrew religion. What’s true in history is also true for us. Many of us can look back at turning points in our lives and see how conflict produced good results. God is the master of using conflict for good.

In American history, the Watergate scandal that took down President Nixon is an interesting case in point. Nixon’s special counsel, Chuck Colson, was sent to prison for his part in the scandal. Out of this experience, Colson came to faith in Jesus and eventually founded Prison Fellowship, a Christian ministry that has transformed the lives of prisoners around the world.

What a comfort to know that God can take the worst conflict and use it for good in our lives.

Israel Houghton has won so many awards (GRAMMYs, Doves, Stellars and Soul Train Awards) that winning must seem like old-hat to him. However, instead of just resting on his laurels, he still likes to lead the pack when it comes to getting his music and his message out there. Last year, Houghton was the first Christian artist with an iPhone Application. This year’s first is through iTunes because on August 31st, Israel’s new album, Love God. Love People., will be their first Christian iTunes LP. On top of that, Houghton will be the first artist in the history of iTunes with an LP release that includes interactive social network capabilities, a music mixer and Bible verses, as well as the ability to create your own album cover.

The Issue is Trust

When you talk about any aspect of Christianity, it always, at some point, comes back to the issue of trust. Christians are to trust God, not only for the big things in life, like our eternal destiny, but also for the everyday things, including money. God is more trustworthy than any bank, preferred stock, Social Security or family trust. He’s more trustworthy than the currency or the government of the United States of America. God is absolutely dependable and we can have complete trust in him.

But trusting God also involves responsibility on our part. Trust is counting on God to help us show up every day for a difficult job. It’s making do with less than the best sometimes, and it’s not worrying about things that might someday go wrong. For the Christian, trust is a way of life.

When you hear the gospel, the word of GOD you can rather accept or deny. Yes, GOD wants you to be a hearer but at the same he wants you to be the doing. “James1:22 – But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Listen GOD is so worthy words cant describe it, He allowed us to know these things for we can become Reverent Holy Sons of Him. “Joshua 1:8 – This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to recite it day and night, so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do” “James 1:23-25 – Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.”

Six Pence None the Richer

“Six Pence None the Richer” is a band that performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. After they sang, Letterman asked the lead singer, Leigh Nash, where the group got its name. Nash replied that it came from C. S. Lewis’ story of a father giving his son sixpence (that’s six pennies) to buy a gift for the father. The father was none the richer when he received the present, because he originally gave the sixpence to his son. The analogy is to God who gives us gifts that we are to use to glorify him. But God’s not richer because of our presentations, since he originally gave the gift.

Letterman said, “That’s a beautiful story. If people could actually live by that sort of thing, our world would be a better place.”

Letterman was right. The world would be a better place if everyone realized that all that we have comes from God.
