REHABILITATION

Today is the day that the Lord has made.

Tedashii, myself, along with my friends Brandon and A.T. start the day off reading through 1 John chapter 4. In community, our hope is strengthened.

So far, our team has only been in the orphanages and church compound. Today, after Brandon teaches, we will venture out into the village’s Freedom Square and share the power of God, which is the Gospel!  Tedashii and I will do a concert there, and the biggest FM station in the area has announced it so the village is anticipating it.

We have spent much of the day in prayer. Satan is alive and at work all around. There are many Muslims, witch doctors, and mystics who are hostile to Christianity here. Anything could happen today. We’ve heard stories of persecution and hostility but mostly just people who are hard-hearted toward grace and think righteousness is something we earn.  So as the hours pass, we ask the Lord to prepare our hearts and theirs. This is the first time I’ve rapped through the Rehab album, but I plan to treat it like my last.

As we pull into Freedom Square, there are people huddled around the 5×10 platform we will rap on. The sound system is old and dusty but reliable. Tedashii and I begin going thru songs and stopping to articulate our hearts thru a translator from time-to-time. Then something in Tedashii snapped. “Allah is not God!” he declared. The place froze in awkward silence. “Allah is not God; Jesus is God and Muhammad is dead!” I was waiting for a riot because by this time there were hundreds of people surrounding us listening. Our translator hesitated but in boldness quoted Tedashii in Arabic. Then, as Tedashii went on to say more, the sound equipment went out. Perfect timing right? Satan is a liar.

There was a moment of unrest, and I was prompted to give a word, so I grabbed a Bible and began to preach the Gospel at the top of my lungs through Romans. My eyes locked with a man dressed in Islamic garb and in compassion I talked about righteousness not being earned but revealed through God in Christ. Then a storm brewed, and the rain came down hard scattering some but many just moved underneath the large canopy behind the stage. So, we turned around and faced them continuing to tell them about Christ. After many professions of faith were made, we prayed for authenticity; as we said amen, the storm lifted, and a bright rainbow stood up against the bright blue backdrop of the sky.

God was always with us. His covenants stand. We are unworthy of this mission. I am daily being rehabilitated. It has never been and will never be about us. It’s about Jesus. God’s power is not limited to our gifts, our equipment, or our resources. God is enough. The Holy Spirit is enough.
